my rockstar blog
My name is Matt Sletto. I'm a stay-at-home dad and small business owner. I was raised in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. It's a big tourist town with a lot of lakes and resorts. I'm very passionate about kids, music and sports. I have 4 amazing children; Charlotte, Landyn, Reed, Harmony and one on the way. We're a blended family who enjoy spending time together. Candi, my fiancé and rock brings joy to me daily. My dad's been involved with music for over 40 years so you can say it's in my blood. I think that he still has the cassette of me singing "The B-I-B-L-E song" when I was three years old. I was in my first musical in 5th grade. We did "Annie Get Your Gun" and I was the messenger. I became passionate about performing. I continued performing through my senior year when I played Olin Britt, the local newspaper owner and bass in the barbershop quartet in "Music Man". I continued singing throughout my undergraduate years and developed even more passion for music. After graduating from college in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in radio/tv broadcasting and English-Writing minor I started adulting. I had always wanted to be sports anchor on ESPN. I started as an on-air personality for a local country music radio station but wasn't fulfilled. I went back to work at an all inclusive resort in my hometown as an Assistant Manager. I was the event planner responsible for setting up meeting rooms, lodging and meals for corporate events. There was no room for advancement because it was family owned. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do until I felt a calling to ministry. I became interested in youth ministry and needed to get out of my hometown. I accepted an offer in upstate New York as a Youth Minister at a Lutheran Church of the Missouri Synod. This is what I needed, a fresh start, fulfillment and distance. After all, I was 1200 miles from home. I was employed for 8 months and decided to move home. I missed my family. They have always been important to me and my strongest support system. Now what? I began looking for jobs to help pay the bills but again wasn't fulfilled. I began singing karaoke in 2006 when I met Kelly who owned a mobile dj company in my hometown. I asked him if he was looking for help because I thought being a DJ would be fun. He said actually yes, can you stop by my house and I can show you what I do? The next day I learned how to run the mixer, operate the computer and mix songs. After 10 hours of training I was a DJ! My first show was on September 30th, 2006 at a high school homecoming dance. I had a lot of nervous energy but it was so much fun! I was with his company for 8 years. Kelly taught me how to work the crowds and keep people dancing at any event. He was my hometown's premiere wedding DJ. I got involved with weddings because they are in high demand. I get the most fulfillment from them because I get to be a part of something special. I've learned over the years that building relationships with couples has more value and is personal. I make an impact by sharing my life experiences as a wedding DJ and person. I get to learn more about couples and their expectations. My friend Jarred helped me realize that it's okay to be myself. I used to compare myself to the competition. I choose to be the best version of me everyday. I'm based in Moorhead, Minnesota and would love to help turn your dreams into memories.
